Teenager gave Eminem credit for keeping it real because his songs are all based on reality, well at least that is what he makes everyone think. His lyrics are all based on his life and how tough it was for growing up where he did. A lot of people can relate to his lyrics and that is why he gets credit for keeping it real. It is very important to the listener to be able to relate to the lyrics of a song and that can only happen if the lyrics have some truth behind them. It is important for lyrics to be reality based because a lot of people use music as a form of therapy. Reality based music is more interesting and can grab the attention of the listener. And when it comes to non reality lyrics the song can be entertaining to listen to, but it really has no meaning to it is just a fun song. Some songs do not have reality based lyrics behind them, but that does not mean that they are not great songs. There is still a great importance to reality based lyrics because every one likes to listen to songs that tell a story about the artist. It makes them see how hard the artist worked to get where they are today. Eminem is a good example of this he has a lot of songs that are based on his life and the obstacles he had to over come to get to where he is today. He has earned the respect of a lot of people because of his reality based lyrics. He does not not rap about the same thing that every one else does. It is not always about money or drugs and women, it is about life. And the problems he has in his life which a lot of people can relate to. They can see Eminem and how he overcame everything he went through and begin to believe in them selves and know that they can overcome any obstacle as well. You do not have to be a fan to enjoy Eminem’s music as long as you are able to feel the truth behind his music and that is all you need to enjoy it. When you are able to relate to the lyrics it makes you feel like you are not the only person with problems in the world.
I personally like reality based music better than non reality based music. Most of the music that is my music library I would say is reality based. I feel like I can share some of the same emotions that some artist put in to their songs when they speak the truth. When they talk about the rough times they had growing up it does not just make me feel closer to the artist, but all his other fans too. Every time I am having a bad day I just listen to some music that I can relate to and it becomes a form of therapy that can help me get over my problems.
Yes, the main reason that Eminem is so appealing, to young people in particular, is because he is relatable. He raps about his life and his struggles growing up. Everybody has struggles in life and we tend to use music like Eminem’s as therapy, just like you said, “When you are able to relate to the lyrics it makes you feel like you are not the only person with problems in the world”. I also think that when there is true feeling behind the music that it is more impactful. Just compare a Hannah Montana song like “Nobody’s Perfect” to “Lose Yourself” by Eminem. Unless you’re an eight year old girl, you would probably agree that Mathers’ music has more substance than Hannah Montana’s. It’s also really important to me that people give Eminem credit for being unique. You did when you said he doesn’t rap about the same things that others rap about and I liked that. Most rappers these days rap about all the alcohol, drugs, money, possessions, and sex they have; entertaining, but not very educational or therapeutic. I too like reality based music more than non reality based music. It feels more raw and true. I like to keep it real.
ReplyDeleteI like your point on music as therapy I never understood that concept. Eminem is a great example of being yourself and keeping it real which is contrary to the world that we live in today where every thing is so shallow and at face value. Eminem is a prime example of someone who goes into the depths of their own soul to express a message outwardly to the public. I also agree with you on respecting him as a reality based artist because you got retards like Gucci mane ruining society with dumb songs that kill peoples brain cells, I also have a slight dismemberment with anything that touches Kiss FM. In today’s brain washing society wear people are captivated by the lies around its refreshing to see a artist tell the unaldureted truth about life not talk about stupid crap like Lambo’s and supermodels. I think that music should be held high because music a part of people’s personality and what ever people listen to they become. Lyrics and beats are very vital to people personality because they send messages to the people sublimely and externally. Though we curses like a sailor and is a little rude and offensive Eminem’s messages are pointed at reality rather than a drug induced fantasy that we hear in today’s music.
