In Aaronson’s essay he mentions that “rather than the internet, the dance floor becomes the loci of true virtual reality.” I believe this is true because when people go to dance they go to forget about their problems and to enjoy themselves and have a good time. The dance floors is a way to escape to a different world where they have no worries no problems and are just free to cat and move how they want to. I believe that the dance floor is indeed powerful enough to erase differences and bridge cultures. When most people are dancing they do not worry about other people that will dance right next to a person they have never seen before. This is the only time when most people act like this. When people are at the grocery store they will not be all close to the other people buying groceries. But if there were on the dance floor they could be rubbing against the same people and most would not even mind they would just keep dancing and enjoying themselves. With all the problems around the world, and our economy being the main one people look for something to take their minds off all the stress and work that they have to do. And the dance floor all these problems that the people have go away, they can be any one and act like any one they want to when there on the dance floor. But all these things change as soon as people leave from the place where there dancing at. When people are not dancing al the cultural boundaries are once again set upon ever one. for some reason people do not feel like they can act the same if they are not on the dance floor, they feel like they must act different around people because of their race or maybe just because they do not have as much money as them. But when you are dancing all that goes away in a heartbeat. Nobody cares who is next to them dancing. Everyone is just looking to have a good time and that is what is really important. It is amazing what can happen on the dance floor as well as off the dance floor. Everyone can be friends at one moment while there dancing. They can be having the best time of their lives, but the next day people act like they do not know each other. Even if they run in to each other at the store they will just act like they never seen each other before. That is what the power of the dance floor can accomplish it can turn complete strangers in to friends. Although the dance floor can only accomplish these things while they are on the dance floor I still believe it is really amazing and interesting how much people can change when they listen to music and dance. If only there were other things that can make everyone get along longer than the dance floor.
We both have similar views on how people are on the dance floor. I agree with your statements on how on the dance floor all the social and ethical issues are bridged. Like you said, when on the dance floor no one cares who they are dancing with or near, they are just dancing to erase all of their problems, forgetting about all their current issues, and just there to be in the moment and have a good time. I like the remark you made about being in a grocery store, when we are buying food or what not we always notice who is around us and avoid those that are not similar to us. Even on a subconscious level we all do this. Somehow it has been grilled into us that we have to stay away from those who are different, and it is sad because we miss out on so much but I do not want to go to the other extreme and have multi culturelism shoved down my throat. If only we could find some happy medium. Lastly, I like your comment on how people feel that they need to act a certain way because of what their background is because that is the only way to be accepted. Good job on your blog
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with you. The dance floor is a place for all people to forget their problems and just let go. Something beautiful about dancing itself is that it can make the spirit come to life. I was out at a club this weekend dancing and watching the dynamic is amazing. There are no inhibitions, its as if everyone is in their own little world. The way I see it is that I can be whoever I want to be because the chances of me seeing any of those people ever again are very slim... That feeling is freeing. In that moment I could be whoever I wanted to be. The spirit inside me was awakened by the right song on at the right moment and my body moving with the beats. It felt like nothing else mattered but that moment alone. There was all types of different people all interacting and moving at once. It was interesting to look at the big picture though. When looking on the dance floor itself it was everyone being free and crazy and having fun no matter who was dancing next to them, then when you looked on the outskirts of the dance floor there were dirty looks and stigmas and judgement and cliques. It was like the dance floor was another world. I enjoyed your blog and intend to read future blogs. :0)
